CBM calculator: how to calculate cubic metres for freight

Calculate cubic metres, cubic feet, density and chargeable weight for any shipment.

Methodology & Quick Reference

Multiply length × width × height in centimetres, divide by 1,000,000 to convert to cubic metres (CBM), then multiply by the total number of pieces. For imperial measurements in inches, multiply length × width × height and divide by 61,024, or divide by 1,728 to get cubic feet first.

Calculation Formula

CBM = (Length cm × Width cm × Height cm ÷ 1,000,000) × Quantity

How to Use This Tool

  1. 1
    Measure each package typeTake the longest external dimension for length, width and height, including pallets or crates.
  2. 2
    Add cargo linesEnter the piece count and total weight for each distinct carton or pallet size.
  3. 3
    Read volume and LCL chargeableThe calculator outputs total CBM, cubic feet, density in kg/m³ and the sea LCL weight-or-measure basis.

Key Reference Values
